"Putting the Phillipines in the World of Boxing"



During the American occupation of the Phillippines, boxing has been introduced by the Americans. It was these time that filipinos learn the new art of self defense called "boxing". Boxing is not only an art of self defense but it is simply a sports that filipinos have been adapted in so many athletic events and gambling. After several years a lot of filipino boxers has emerged and become a champion. On June 18, 1923, Francisco ''Pancho Villa" beat Jimmy Wilde to become the world flyweight boxing champion and became the source of pride of the filipino people. This was the first demonstration of filipino warrior's bravery and determination in the international arena.



Fortunately, many excellent Filipino boxers who consequently followed Pancho Villa to the United States. After several years another filipino boxers who conquered the world of boxing and that is Gabriel "FLASH" Elorde then followed by Manny "PACMAN" Pacquiao.
